Murray State (3-8, 2-2 OVC) concludes this four-game road swing on Monday at Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois.
The Lady Racers committed 26 turnovers -- 15 in the first half -- allowing UNC Charlotte (6-4) to score 36 points off of turnovers, while MSU had 10 points from UNCC's errors.
"It was real disappointing," said MSU head coach Joi Felton. "We knew that they were a fast-breaking team, and that the transition defense would be key. In the first half, we gave up 26 points in the paint. Charlotte had 36 points off of our turnovers, and any time you have 26 turnovers -- no matter who you play -- you're not going to be successful. We'll talk about that and work to correct that, because a lot of those were unforced turnovers; we made some poor, poor decisions.
"(Shooting) 10-for-20 from the three-point line is great, but you're not going to win the game from the three-point line; you're going to win it in the paint, and that was evident tonight. Charlotte had 44 points in the paint to our 16."
Murray State was led by Joi Scott's 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and eight rebounds to go with a game-high three blocked shots. Ashley Brooke Hayes added 15 points on 4-for-9 shooting from behind the arc, while Ashley Nichole Hayes had 12 points. Shaleea Petty had a team-high eight assists for MSU.
UNC Charlotte was led by Pam Brown, who had 21 points to go with six rebounds and three steals. Sakellie Daniels added 16 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and two steals, while Whitney Hoey had 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from three-point range. Sabrina Gregory scored 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals, while Danielle Burgin had 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field.
Murray State resumes conference play on Monday at 7:35 p.m. at Eastern Illinois (3-6, 2-1 OVC). The Panthers visit Charleston Southern on Friday before hosting the Lady Racers.
