Racers Earn First Win Of 2005 At Skyhawk Invitational

Kara Carlile staked Murray State to a 1-0 lead against South Alabama when she scored off a pass from Lauren Falls in the 34th minute. The goal was the second of the season for Carlile and the assist was the first for Falls in 2005.
The Racers held their slim advantage until South Alabama (1-2-0) tied it up in the 64th minute on Rebecca Kahn's goal. Jennifer Beckwith assisted on the play.
The Jaguars out shot MSU 20-14 through the first overtime, but the Racers attempted two shots in the final overtime, with the second finding the back of the net, to cut the final margin to 20-16.
Annie Fortier made 10 saves in goal for Murray State, with seven of those coming in the second period and first overtime.
On Friday against Arkansas-Little Rock (1-4-0), the Racers suffered their third straight shutout. MSU out shot the Trojans 16-5 in the first period and 25-11 for the game but couldn't get one past UALR goalkeeper Marsha Stewart, who finished with nine saves.
Maria Ferrato's unassisted goal at the 54:07 mark proved to be the game-winner. Ferrato came off the bench to lead Arkansas-Little Rock with five shot attempts, four of which were on goal. Jessica Fioranelli and Krista Llewellyn led Murray State with six shots each. A total of 10 Racers finished with at least one shot attempt.
The Racers return to action on Sunday when they host Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) at Cutchin Field on the MSU campus. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
