Lady Racers place fourth of eight at Vanderbilt Commodore Classic

The Murray State women's cross country team placed fourth in the eight-team Vanderbilt Commodore Classic, run Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. The Lady Racers bested the other two Ohio Valley Conference teams in the meet, beating out Tennessee Tech (fifth) and Austin Peay (seventh).
Freshman Alaina Zanin led the way for Murray State, finishing 13th in the 77-runner race, completing the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 19 minutes, 37.91 seconds.
Freshman Kristen Heckert was 22nd with a time of 20:01.02, while senior Megan Rainville was 28th at 20:35.48. Senior Lauren Wilson finished 31st with a time of 20:42.74, while senior Lindsey Neeley was 38th at 20:58.72.
Host Vanderbilt won the meet with 28 points, followed by Lipscomb with 62 points, Emory at 66, Murray State at 121, Tennessee Tech at 167, Union at 180, Austin Peay at 189 and Maryville at 269. Vanderbilt's freshmen ran as a team and accumulated 102 points.
Murray State will next compete on Oct. 1 at the UTM Invitational in Martin, Tenn.
