Murray State Soccer Falls At Austin Peay In OVC Opener

Erica Dengler scored off a rebound less than half a minute into the match to give the home team a 1-0 lead. At the 7:39 mark, Ashley Beck scored off pass from Adonia Bivins, after Bivins intercepted a goal kick.
Austin Peay did not score again in the first half despite holding a 16-5 edge in shot attempts.
Murray State cut the deficit in half, with just 47 seconds remaining in the first period, when sophomore Christie Arnett scored her first goal of the season and the first of her MSU career.
The Racers were out-shot just 8-7 in the second period, but could not push across the tying score. With less than three and a half minutes remaining in the game, Austin Peay secured the victory with Dengler's second goal of the match.
Krista Llewellyn led the visitors with four shots. Dengler finished with a game-high seven shot attempts for the Lady Govs.
Annie Fortier started in goal for MSU and played the first period. The junior allowed two goals and made two saves. Junior Heather Jones played the next 45 minutes, allowing one goal and totaling four saves. Sarah Broadbent logged 90 minutes in net for APSU, making four saves.
The Racers will try to even their Ohio Valley Conference record on Sunday when they face Tennessee Tech. The match in Cookeville, Tenn., will begin at 1:00 p.m.
