MSU Soccer Battles Samford But Drops 2-1 Decision

For a long time Sunday, the Murray State Women's Soccer team stood toe to toe with Ohio Valley Conference leader Samford and showed the kind of effort it takes to win a match against a tough opponent. However, the Racers could not cash in on any of their good chances to score in the final 22 minutes and lost the match 2-1.

Early in the match the Racers had a couple of good chances to score first. Melisa Curry put a shot on goal at
Samford got the first goal of the game at 24:41 when Samantha Applegate deflected in a direct kick by Rebecca Bohler from about 30 yards out on the left wing.
At 39:25 Samford was called for a foul on MSU's Rebekah Clay, however her resulting penalty kick was high and wide right of the goal and Samford kept their 1-0 lead to half time.
The Racers tied the score just
Samford regained the lead at 68:34 when MSU was called for a foul on Bohler. Her chance at a penalty kick was kicked to the right of MSU keeper Annie Fortier and in the net for a 2-1 Bulldogs.
In the 80th minute the Racers had two shots on goal by Clay and Llewellyn but one shot was wide and one hit the cross bar.
The Racers started the day in 6th place (the final playoff spot in the OVC) and one point ahead of
