Lady Racers Open Season Tonight

The Murray State Lady Racers tip off their 2006-07 season tonight at 7 p.m. against Kentucky State in MSU's Regional Special Events Center.
"I'm looking for our team to come out with a lot of energy," said MSU head coach Joi Felton. "It's an exciting time; we're very excited about starting the season. We want to come out and play aggressively, especially on the defensive end, but still play aggressively on the offensive end."
In Murray State's 67-52 exhibition win against Christian Brothers, Felton was pleased with the start but disappointed with the finish.
"In the first half, we came out pretty aggressively and did some good things," she said. "We came out in the second half and did not play as aggressively. The exhibition game gave us a week to look at some things and tweak some things, so we're ready to go now.
"We've got to rebound better than we did in the exhibition game. It's going to get tougher and tougher as the schedule goes along, so that's always a point of emphasis, as is our defense."
Although the game is the regular-season opener for Murray State, it will be an exhibition game for Kentucky State. The Thorobrettes open their season on Nov. 18 against Lincoln Memorial. Tonight's game marks the first meeting between these teams since Hall-of-Famer Sheila Smith was a freshman, as the Lady Racers won the last meeting 78-55 on Dec. 12, 1985.
