Murray State's Student-Athlete Organization Collects 12,372 Food Items

Murray State University's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) has collected 12,372 food items for donation to the local Needline organization.

The MSU SAAC worked as part of an Ohio Valley Conference sponsored food drive. The 11 conference institutions combined to collect over 30,000 food items. The Racers led the way followed by Tennessee-Martin's collection of 10,621 food items.

“I'm very proud of the effort that our student-athletes put into this project and I'm very happy that Murray State athletes had this opportunity to give back to a community that has supported them for so many years,” said MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward. “This is a testament to the quality students that we have in athletics and at this university.”

In addition to canned goods, noodles and macaroni and cheese, the SAAC also collected over $1,200. The SAAC will use the cash donations to purchase food items from Kroger. Local Kroger manager Don Cherry has graciously allowed the Racers to get the most “bang for their buck” in order to provide the most help to local families.

The SAAC will deliver its 12,372 food items to the Murray Needline on Monday.
