Murray State fans remember the Mike Gottfried era in Racer football as a period of time when the program came into national prominence. Gottfried's tenure at MSU spanned three seasons from 1978 to 1980, his mark of 22-11-1 including an outstanding record of 18 wins in his final two seasons including the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in 1979 which was MSU's first since the 1950's.
