Student-Athlete Organization Recognized For Its Work

The purpose of the SAAC is to cultivate productive relationships and communication between the MSU Athletics department and the student-athletes, provide opportunities for all student-athletes to take an active role in campus and community projects and activities, and enhance the academic and athletic experience for the MSU student-athlete.
“This is awesome,” said SAAC President and MSU Women's Soccer team member Lisa Pfeiffer. “We had this vision of doing all that we could on campus, in the community and in the athletic department. It's great that our group has been recognized for its hard work.”
The Murray State SAAC has a long list of accomplishments from the past year. The organization doubled its size by having two representatives from each team at meetings. SAAC members raised over $1500 for victims of Hurricane Katrina. In addition the SAAC organized the donation of dozens of new and gently used suitcases, and gym bags that were sent to the
The group organized a food drive and donated all the goods to the local Needline. The SAAC also had a personal hygiene drive in which they collected hygiene items and also donated those to Needline.
SAAC members enlisted the help of all student-athletes to provide youth services in the
Lastly, the group organized day long activities in conjunction with National Sportsmanship Day. The members spent the morning at many local elementary and middle schools talking to students and reading excerpts from books about positive sportsmanship and role models. The day was finished with a motivational and educational presentation by nationally known speaker and former professional athlete Rob Ramage.
