The Murray State Racers seventh season of collegiate soccer began Friday with a tough 2-0 loss in
The Racers battled the Jaguars to a scoreless first half.
MSU's first year head coach Beth Acreman remains upbeat at the evidence she's seeing on the field.
“We're playing well right now, things just aren't bouncing our way,” Acreman said.
“Our style of play is starting to come together, and the girls are starting to get used to our new system.”
The Racers had some chances to score the first goal of the game during the start of the second half when they spent a lot of time attacking the IUPUI net.
IUPUI scored the game's first goal at 55:13 on an unassisted shot by Mia Moody. They added another goal at 58:44 when Sheri Levack's crossing pass was punched in by Katrina McCrory
“At the beginning of the second half we dominated play,” Acreman said. “But a couple of mistakes we made killed our momentum, but I'm seeing good things, we're playing well right now.”
Indeed the Racers had chances; from the 60th minute to the 64th minute, the Racers put three shots on the IUPUI goal but none found the back of the net.
MSU peppered the IUPUI goal with 15 shots on the night, seven were on target but none would go in. The Jags had 11total shots, four were on the MSU goal and two went in.
MSU keeper Annie Fortier played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.
It was a matter of getting chances, but not getting the goal for the Racers.
“We had five or six genuine scoring opportunities, but it's just not going in the net right now,” Acreman said.
Looking ahead, the Racers now have less than a week to prepare for their next contest, a road contest Friday Sep. 1, at
“We've got to be patient, because this is going to take some time to get this going,” Acreman added. “We will begin clicking soon.”
