MSU Soccer Feeling Positive Even After Loss At Southern Miss

“To be honest, the first half was as good as we can play,” Acreman said. “We were playing along in a scoreless game, anybody's game and number nine just went off on a mission.”
Indeed, McFadden took the game over for USM. After Carly Barkley scored the game's first goal at 60:47, McFadden became a one woman wrecking crew. She scored at 86:11 and then added two more goals only 43-seconds apart to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead.
The Racers had 10 shots on goal for the game and had some good chances to score.
Rebekah Clay and Melisa Curry each had two shots on goal for the day, while Laura Oppegard, Jen Peios, and Tara Eby had one each.
The loss drops the Racers to 0-2, but more importantly the team wants to score the first goal of the season, and Acreman says then they can settle down.
“The girls are really upset because they felt like they fought for this one,” Acreman said. I'm still seeing a lot of positive things, I'm seeing great effort, but at this point we just need to get over the hump; we need a goal and then we'll get going.”
With a new head coach and a new system, it's a learning process.
“We're only three games in and still figuring out who needs to play where;” Acreman said.
“I was shocked we got scored on that many times, but I'm still not disappointed with this team, it's still just learning process about our rotation and what we're trying to do.” Acreman added. “I'm still very positive in what we're doing, good things are coming.”
The Racers play their home opener Sunday at Cutchin Field against
