Just when it looked like the game was all but over, the Murray State soccer team picked up the pace and nearly turned in an incredible comeback.
Trailing Southeast Missouri State 3-0 late in the second half, freshman Katie Wilson scored goals in the 76th and 79th minutes to cut what looked like an insurmountable deficit into a 3-2 game. The Racers had a couple of scoring chances to get the tying goal, but couldn't get it to drop in a game that snapped their four game winning streak and dropped their Ohio Valley Conference mark to 4-3 and their overall record to 9-7.
Southeast scored the first of three goals from Courtney Alexander in the 18th minute, she also added scores in the 56th and 66th minute before the Racers began their comeback.
Wilson's first goal was assisted by Sara Struve and the second goal was assisted by Rebekah Clay.
Tara Isbell took the loss in goal as she faced 12 shots with three saves.
The Racers and SEMO tied in the shots department with each taking 12.
The Racers play their final regular season home game for 2007 Sunday when they host Eastern Illinois at Cutchin Field at 1 p.m. The Racers will have senior day activities before the game as eight seniors say goodbye. Those seniors are: Kara Carlile, Lauren Granger, Lacey Latimer, Katrina Meyer, Jen Nowak, Jen Peios, Jaclyn Ramage and Sara Struve.
