MSU Soccer Sets Program Record In 1-0 Win Over EIU

Kalli McCoy came off the bench and scored the only goal of the game in the 43^rd minute to lead the Murray State women's soccer team to a 1-0 home win over Eastern Illinois at Cutchin Field Sunday on senior day. The 10^th win of the season for the Racers sets a new school single season mark, breaking the record of nine wins set in the Racers' first season in 2000.

The winning goal was set up by Lacey Latimer who took a shot straight on from 20 yards out. McCoy controlled the rebound off an EIU defender and knocked home her fourth goal of 2007.

The Racers' senior day win Sunday over Eastern Illinois was their first in nine tries. Previously, MSU was 0-5-3 against the Panthers.

The Racers took the fight to the Panthers for much of the contest and ended the day allowing only one shot that goalkeeper Tara Isbell stopped to get her fifth shut out of the season. MSU out shot EIU 13-10 and led 6-1 in shots on goal.

The win was MSU's fifth in OVC games this season, tying the mark set by the 2005 team.

Seniors Jen Nowak and Kara Carlile played in their 75^th career games tying the program record held by Emily Schaller who played in 75 games for MSU from 2000-03. They will break Schaller's mark when MSU plays the final regular season game Sunday at UT-Martin.

The match between the Racers and Panthers marked the final regular season home game for eight Racer seniors, Kara Carlile, Lauren Granger, Lacey Latimer, Katrina Meyer, Jen Nowak, Jen Peios, Jaclyn Ramage and Sara Struve.

MSU's win makes them 10-7-0 overall in 2007 and 5-3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Racers are in good shape to qualify to host an OVC Tournament game Nov. 9.
