Murray State sophomore cross country runner Taylor Crawford has been named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference Second Team, the league office announced following the 2007 OVC Cross Country Championships last Saturday.
Crawford, from Owensboro, Ky., finished 14th out of 78 runners at the OVC Championships, held at Veteran's Park in Hoover, Ala.
Her time of 19:17.52 led the Racers to a 4th place finish at the event.
The announcement caps off a sizzling streak for Crawford, who was Murray State's top finisher in the last two meets.
Crawford's season and career-best time in the 5k occured on Oct. 13 at the University of Evansville Invitational, an event that MSU won, besting 12 other teams. Crawford ran the course in 18:33.01 and finished in 7th place out of 124 runners at that meet, and was named OVC Co-Runner of the Week later that week for her efforts at the UE Invitational. Crawford's strong performance also earned her the MSU-Pepsi Athlete of the Week Award for the week of Oct. 8-14.
Murray State head coach Dereck Chavis was pleased with Crawford's progression throughout the 2007 cross country season.
"I am very proud of Taylor," Chavis said. "She really stepped it up at the end of the year and did a great job carrying our team and being our front runner."
"She is very quiet and unassuming but she leads by her actions and loves to compete. I greatly respect her willingness to compete as hard as she does for our team. Consequently, she has been a cornerstone for our program and has earned every accolade she has received thus far."
