Hayes Named OVC Player Of The Week

Junior guard/forward Ashley Hayes was unanimously voted the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 9. Hayes averaged 24.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in Murray State's two games last week. Voting was done by league women's basketball sports information contacts.
Against Morehead State on Saturday, Hayes scored a career-high-tying 26 points on 12-for-24 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, notching her fifth double-double of the season. Against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, she put in 22 points on 10-for-21 shooting and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds to go with two blocked shots and two steals. For the week, she averaged 9.0 defensive boards per contest, shooting 22-for-45 (.489) from the field and 4-for-7 (.571) from three-point range.
The award is the first weekly honor for Hayes since earning three OVC Freshman of the Week honors in the 2005-06 season.She was a Pre-Season All-OVC honoree this season and earned All-OVC Second Team and All-Tournament Team accolades last year.
Murray State will visit Lipscomb this Saturday for a 7 p.m. game, then returns to OVC play with a Dec. 18 game at Jacksonville State.
