MSU Holds Lead Until 82nd Minute In 2-1 OT Loss

The Racers scored the first goal in the match 19:09 into the first half when Krista Muilkens was awarded a penalty kick. Her second goal of the season put the Racers in front 1-0, a lead they held for another 63 minutes.
With a victory for the Racers in sight, only needing to hold on for another 7:27, Samford's Cassie Applegate scored the tying goal on a header off a Bulldogs corner kick. The score was 1-1 at 82:33.
The game went into overtime where Samford's Leah Leppert won the match 2-1 on a running kick just inside the right post 5:56 into the extra frame.
The Racers battled the Bulldogs even though they played the final 22:24 a player short after freshman Audrey Wilson received a yellow card after making a hard tackle and then a red card ejection moments later after another tackle.
Tara Isbell turned in her best performance of 2007. She played the entire 95:56 in goal and made nine saves, seven of which came in the second half.
MSU head coach Beth Acreman continues to see tremendous effort from her team.
“We played one of the best games we've played all season,” Acreman said. “If we continue to play with that type of intensity good things will happen.”
“We had a great team effort,” Acreman added. “Defensively we were solid, we just couldn't another one to drop.”
The Racers are back at home at Cutchin Field Friday for the first time since Sep. 12 when they face the Morehead State Eagles at 3 p.m. MSU is also at home Sunday at 1 p.m. against
