MSU Soccer Drops 1-0 OT Match At Morehead

The Murray State Women's Soccer team played a brilliant defensive battle for more than 96 minutes Friday night, but dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 match at Morehead State with 3:03 left in the first overtime period.

Morehead State's Erin Adams scored in the 96^th minute to hand the Racers their first loss in the Ohio Valley Conference season.

“I think it was a hard fought game tonight,” MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman said. “Morehead came out intense on their senior day and we played well.”

“There were moments when we lost focus, but I wasn't upset with our effort,” Acreman added. “We got a great performance from Maja Nordahl and Sophie Hargreaves.”

Murray State is now 8-5-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the OVC.

As has been the case in nearly all of the Racers' previous 14 matches, MSU created more chances to score. In this match they out-shot Morehead State 16-11 and 7-3 in shots on goal.

The loss for the MSU makes Sunday's match at Eastern Kentucky a battle for first place after the Colonels also won by a 1-0 score at home Friday against UT Martin.

Sunday's match in Richmond, Ky. finds the Racers and Colonels tied for OVC first place with 12 points apiece. The OVC awards three points for a win and one point for a tie to determine the standings. The Racers are 4-1, while EKU is 4-2. The Sunday match begins at noon central time at the EKU Soccer Complex.

Morehead State, in third place with 11 points, hosts UT Martin.
