After guiding the Murray State women's basketball team to its most successful season ever, Jody Adams has accepted the head coaching position at Wichita State. Adams will replace Jane Albright, who coached five seasons with the Shockers with a 48-95 overall record and a 24-66 Missouri Valley Conference mark in that time. Adams is somewhat familiar with the WSU program, having served as the associate head coach at fellow MVC member Southern Illinois from 2004 to 2007.
"I appreciate all that Jody has done for our program, and I wish her all the best," said MSU athletics director Allen Ward.
Adams came into a good situation at Murray State and made it great, guiding a team that had reached the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship game the year before into this year's NCAA Tournament with the OVC championship.
In just her first season as a collegiate head coach, Adams attained these accomplishments:
* 24 wins, a Murray State season best and equaling the most wins for a first-year coach this season entering the NCAA Tournament
* Murray State's first-ever OVC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance
* 15 OVC wins, tying the MSU single-season record
* 13 home wins, a Racer women's record, including a win over NCAA Tournament participant Miami (Ohio)
* A nine-game win streak entering the NCAA Tournament, with each of the last six by 10 or more points (including the three OVC Tournament games)
* Coached this year's OVC Player of the Year (Ashley Hayes) and OVC Tournament MVP (Amber Guffey); each also was named All-OVC First Team and to the All-OVC Tournament Team
