Former Racer Joi Scott, the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, has wrapped up her first season playing professionally for the Boaviagem (Portugal) Angra Acores of the FIBA EuroCup Women league.
The FIBA league's regular season began on Nov. 11, 2007, and lasted until March 9, 2008. The Angra Acores finished the season with a 15-7 regular season record, which placed them fifth out of 12 teams. After winning the first game against Vagos in a best-of-five playoff format on April 5, the Angra Acores dropped the next three games in the league tournament quarterfinals to end the season at 16-10 on April 13.
Scott wasted no time establishing herself as one of the league's best all-around players. For the season, Scott posted brilliant numbers, averaging 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks per game.
"The season went pretty good," Scott said. "It was a good experience and I got to travel and get to go to a lot of places that I'd never been."
After seemingly dominating the college game, Scott made the necessary adjustments to be an elite athlete in the professional ranks.
"College is more structured and organized," Scott said. "Here, you just show up and play and the practices are more laid-back. We don't really do a lot of scouting, so that was really different having to get prepared to play."
Scott's two-year career at Murray State was one of the better stints in program history. Scott ranks in the top ten in nine career categories, including leading in points per game (21.09), field goal percentage (.570), and blocks per game (1.61). Scott also holds seven single-season top-10 records and five single-game top-10 records.
