The Murray State Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-0 match to Western Kentucky in the opening day of the Belmont University Showcase in
The Racers had some early chances to get on top, but couldn't get a goal to drop.
The Hilltoppers answered with a goal in the 7th and 9th minutes to take a 2-0 lead.
“Games are won by goals, not by how you play on the field,” MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman said. “If you can't put the ball in the back of the net you can't win.”
“We had one shot go off the cross bar and one off the post early in the first half, but when they scored two after that and it took the wind out of our sails,” Acreman added.
The Racers ended the day with 13 shots and eight on goal, led by five shots on goal by senior Rebekah Clay. Veronika Pribyslavska, Melisa Curry, and Rachel Longley also had shots on goal.
MSU falls to 2-3 on the season.
