MSU Soccer Battles Marshall To 2-2 Deadlock
9/19/2008 5:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
The Murray State Women's Soccer team battled the Marshall Thundering Herd Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field and after 110 minutes on the field, the two squads settled for a 2-2 tie.
The Racers had to come from behind in the second half to get the tie.
In the 76th minute, MSU's Katie Wilson was fouled in the penalty box, resulting in a penalty kick by Sophie Hargreaves. The freshman calmly knocked the ball to the back of the goal for a 2-2 game. The two teams had chances the rest of the way but no one was able to score.
Murray State Head Coach Beth Acreman liked what she saw from her team.
“This was one of the most complete matches we have played this season,” Acreman said. “Obviously you want to win, but the girls showed tremendous fight and played hard through the overtimes, so I was happy with the way we played.”
The Racers scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute when Veronika Pribyslavska set up Katie Wilson with a long pass from the left wing.
“Our defensive unit played very well,” Acreman said. “Janelle Cunningham and Melisa Curry had strong performances as did others. Also, it was nice to see Katie get her first goal of the season.”
Tara Isbell got the win in goal and made six saves along the way.
The Racers had an 18-10 edge in shots and a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
