Women's Cross Country Takes Close Second to SIU at Saluki Invitational

The Murray State women's cross country team ran their best meet of the season to capture second place at the Saluki Invitational. The race was very close, with the Racers falling short of first place by only four points.

Katelyn Jones set her career best in the 5k this season with a time of 18:22.51 and finished in second place. Karissa Magnuson (18:50.42) and Alaina Zanin (19:01.71) also set their career bests for the season which landed them in the top ten.

“We just missed beating one of the better schools in this area and we defeated two of the top four teams in our conference,” assistant coach Chris England stated about the tremendous improvement of the women's performance. “Katelyn is getting more and more fit as the season goes on, contrary to her freshmen year. She eased her way into this season and is now gaining momentum.”

The top finisher for the men's team was Andrew Beckman with a time of 28:01.67 in the 8k race. The men came in 6^th place overall, with most of them setting personal bests for the season. They have shown steady improvement and Coach England has great expectations for the OVC Championships for both the men's and women's teams.

The Racer's will compete again Saturday, October 4^th at the Greater Louisville Classic held in Louisville, Ky.
