Hayes Earns Third-Straight OVC Player of the Week Honor

Murray State women's basketball senior Ashley Hayes is proving why she was named the 2008-09 Preseason OVC Player of the Year, as she has been named the OVC Player of the Week for Jan. 26, marking her third-straight honor.

Hayes scored 30 points against Southeast Missouri, including 21 in the second half to spark the Racers (13-6, 8-1 OVC) to victory after the team trailed by seven at the half. It was the third time this season she tallied at least 30 points in a single game.

Against Eastern Illinois, she tied a career-high with five steals to go along with 16 points. For the week, Hayes averaged 23.0 points while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor.

Murray State has a week off before host UT Martin in the first game of the second round of OVC competition. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at the Regional Special Events Center, Saturday, Jan. 31.
