Tony Martin's RBI single to right field in the top of the eighth inning gave South Dakota State a 3-2 victory over Murray State in the final game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Beau Hanowski started the inning with a base on balls before going to second on a successful sacrifice bunt. Martin blooped a 1-0 pitch into right field to score Hanowski with the winning run.
MSU had a chance in the bottom of the eighth inning as a pair of errors helped to load the bases with one out. SDSU reliever Kirby Morsching was able to get out of the jam by getting a flyout to left field and a groundout to second.
SDSU (1-2) plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning as Joel Blake doubled to right field and later scored on a groundout to short. Jesse Sawyer added the second run with a solo home run to right center.
The ?Breds (2-1) took advantage of some wildness in the fourth as Wes Cunningham singled up the middle with two outs before Bryan Propst and Tyler Owen were hit by pitches. The run scored when Matt Hon drew a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded.
MSU tied the game in the fifth as Zach Noonan singled through the left side with one out. Daniel Hill singled to right field with two outs and Cunningham drove in Noonan with a single up the middle.
Morsching (1-0) picked up the victory after allowing one run on four hits over 4.1 innings. Anthony Stacy (0-1) took the loss after giving up one run in two-thirds of an inning.
Marc Harmon received a no decision despite allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings.
Cunningham led the ?Breds with a pair of hits and an RBI.
The ?Breds return to the diamond on Feb. 24 as they travel to take on Memphis. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
