MSU Golf Brings Home Samford Title - Carrico Runner Up

The Murray State Men's Golf team brought home their second straight championship in two spring events Tuesday when they won the big prize at the Samford Intercollegiate in
The Racers used a second round 12-under par 276 Monday, sandwiched between a 288 in the first round and a 295 in Tuesday's third round for a 859 total, nine shots clear of second place Kennesaw State at 868.
MSU sophomore Cameron Carrico came close to winning for a second straight tournament after having won the Racers' spring opener two weeks ago in
MSU's Nick Newcomb placed seventh with scores of 71-71-74=216 along with teammate Jared Wolfe who carded scores of 74-70-72=216.
Mitchell Moore placed 11th after scores of 73-69-77=219, while Chris Griffin finished 30th in the field of 71 competitors with scores of 77-73-76=226.
Conditions were considerably tougher Tuesday on the Limestone course that played to a par of 72 and nearly 7,000 yards.
“It was a windy day and the course was set up a little harder,” MSU Head Coach Eddie Hunt said. “But we played a solid round today and I'm proud of our team for bringing home another first place finish.”
The Racers have certainly hit a hot streak from last fall and into this spring, they have won five of the eight tournaments in the 2008-09 season and they also have two runner-up finishes.
