Error Sends 'Breds to 6-4 Defeat

The third Murray State error proved to be the most costly as it led to two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Central Arkansas a 6-4 victory Tuesday evening at Bear Stadium.
The 'Breds looked to have the second out of the inning on a grounder to short, but the throw was up the first-base line allowing the runner to reach. After a flyout to shallow right center, Tye Throneberry delivered a two-run home run to right center.
The Bears (11-6) got on the board in the third as back-to-back singles put runners on the corners with no outs. After a walk loaded the bases, Josh Huffman was hit by a pitch to score a run. Dillon Smith followed by hitting into a double play, allowing the second run to score.
The 'Breds (12-5) took the lead in the fourth as Tyler Owen and Jonathan Craycraft drew walks ahead of Bryan Propst's three-run home run to left center.
UCA was able to tie the game in the fifth as Dillon Smith singled up the middle with two outs and scored when Jonathan Yerby's fly ball to right field was misplayed into a two-base error.
MSU regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Craycraft doubled into the gap in right center to start the inning before hustling home from third on a sacrifice fly to left center off the bat of Daniel Miller.
The Bears wasted no time in tieing the score as Graham Martin started the frame with a solo home run to left field.
Lucas Allen (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs, one earned on three hits and five strikeouts. Jeremy Brewer (1-0) picked up the victory in relief after allowing one hit over two innings. Matt Humphrey (1) picked up the save after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The two teams will play the second game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
