Murray State University has been recertified by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), affirmation that the institution operates its program in conformity with the operating principles adopted by the Division I membership.
Similar to the University's reaccreditation process for its academic operation, NCAA certifications are conducted on 10-year cycles.
The self study includes a review of three primary components: governance and commitment to rules compliance; academic integrity; equity and student-athlete well-being.

Judy Brookhiser, Associate Professor Wellness & Therapeutic Sciences, chaired the self-study committee. Gary Brockway, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Don Robertson, Vice President for Student Affairs, and John Rall, General Counsel chaired the three component subcommittees.
“The self-study process spanned over a year of dedicated effort from a broad-based representation of faculty, staff, students, and people from the community who carefully analyzed all aspects of the Athletics Department,” stated Brookhiser. “The outcome demonstrates that the Murray State Department of Athletics is committed to ongoing excellence in the service of student-athletes, ethical operation, and equal opportunity.”
The University has over 300 student-athletes participating in 16 intercollegiate sports at the Division I level, the highest level of athletics in the college ranks.
