The opener wasn't decided until late in the second half when MSU got the game winning goal in the 77th minute when Rachel Longley found Jenna Fioranelli on a free kick who headed in her second goal of the game.
After falling behind 1-0 when the Mastodons scored in the 12th minute, the Racers evened the tally in the 28th minute when Nicole Evans sent a perfect crossing pass that was punched home by Fioranelli.
The Racers trailed 2-1 at half, but tied the game in the 52nd minute when Rachel Wright scored unassisted to make it a 2-2 game, setting up Fioranelli's winner.
Tara Isbell, Olivia Hemme, and Katie Walsh shared the goalkeeping duties with 30 minutes each.
They recorded four saves as the Racer defense limited IPFW to only 14 shots for the game and six on goal.
Murray State had 17 shots total for the game with 10 on goal.
The Racers also had a big edge in corner kicks 9-1.
"Obviously we're happy to get the win, but there is still a lot for us to do before we open the regular season," Racer Head Coach Beth Acreman said. "We have to find a way to play better as one unit and make better tactical decisions."
The Racers open the regular season Friday at 4 p.m. at Arkansas-Little Rock.
