Women's Cross Country Has Strong Performance at Commodore Classic

Nashville Tenn. - The Murray State women's cross country team placed third, while the men's team finished 14th at the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. this morning.
Taylor Crawford finished a team-best fifth place with a time of 18:46.57 in the women's 5k this morning for the Racers. Katelyn Jones wasn't far behind as she turned in an 11th place finish with a time of 19:13.69 for MSU. Asenath Na'Aman rounded out the Racers top 20 finishers with a 19th place finish as she crossed the line in 19:36.60. Last years Freshman of the Year, Karissa Magnuson, finished 23rd.
Kayla Crusham, Bridget Stichnot, Jami Kloenne and Kristin Reffett also ran for the Racers this morning as they finished 48th, 68th, 69th and 76th, respectively.
The women turned in a third place finish out of the 18 team event as Eastern Kentucky and Vanderbilt finished just ahead of them with Vanderbilt taking first place in the competition.
In the men's competition over 8,000-meters, the Racers finished 14th out of the 16 team competition. Andrew Beckman was the top Racer as he finished 60th out of the 170 man field. Beckman averaged a time of 5:46.1 per mile and finished with an overall time of 28:40.27. Other top finishers for the Racers included freshman, Derek Perry in 69th and Theron Chalepah in 95th.
Jack Findley, Andy Pack, Royce Giffen and Ryan Millard also ran for the Racers as they finished 104th, 123rd, 128th and 143rd respectively.
Lipscomb took the team title on the men's side, followed by Morehead State, Vanderbilt, Georgia State and Rhodes to round out the top five.
MSU will be back in action as they travel to Carbondale, Ill. Saturday, Sept. 26 to compete in the Saluki Invitational. Start time is set for 10 a.m.
