Men's and Women's Cross Country Place Seventh at Belmont Opener

Nashville Tenn. - The Murray State women's and men's cross country team placed seventh at the Belmont Opener meet held Friday evening at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

On the women's side, Katelyn Jones paced the Racers as she finished 15^th in the field of 85 with a time of 14:55.08 on the 4k course. Taylor Crawford finished with a time of 15:26.15 and finished 30^th while Asenath Na'Aman finished just behind her in 36^th place.

Karissa Magnuson, Kristin Reffett, Bridget Stichnot, Kayla Crusham and Jami Kolenne also ran for the Racers this evening.

Vanderbilt took the top spot on the women's side followed by Alabama, UAB, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee, Belmont, Murray State, Lipscomb and fellow conference member, UT-Martin..

In the men's competition over 5,000-meters, the Racers finished seventh with Derek Perry leading the way with a 29th place finish in 16:37.86. Other top finishers for the Racers included Andrew Beckham in 38th and Theron Chalepah in 46th.

Andy Pack, Andrew Smithson and Ryan Millard also ran for the Racers as they finished 53^rd, 57^th and 62^nd, respectively.

Middle Tennessee won the men's team title followed by Belmont, Lipscomb, Vanderbilt, Belmont, UT-Martin and Murray State.

The teams will take a week off before traveling to Nashville, Tenn. Saturday, Sept. 19 to compete in the Commodore Invite. Start time is set for 9 a.m. for the men's race with the women's race set to begin at 10 a.m.
