Marcus Harris and Mike Harris also receiv national recognition
After helping Murray State re-write the school and Ohio Valley Conference record books sophomore quarterback Casey Brockman was named the National Player of the Week by The Sports Network, College Sporting News and the College Football Performance Awards.
Wide receiver Marcus Harris was also named the wide receiver of the week by the CFPA, while running back Mike Harris was an honorable mention selection at running back by the CFPA.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) led the Racers in one of the most exciting football games in Racer history as he went 32-for-41 for 570 yards and seven touchdowns. He established a new school record for passing yards and touchdowns, while setting a new OVC record for yards and tieing the record for touchdowns. Brockman's 332 yards passing in the first half also established a new MSU record for passing yards in a half.
The self proclaimed “Wild Horse” also scored the Racers first TD of the game on a two-yard run.
With the Racers trailing by 14 points late in the third quarter, Brockman capped a seven play drive by hitting Dexter Barnett on a 19-yard touchdown pass. After recovering the ensuing onside kick, Brockman needed only three plays to score as he hit a streaking Marcus Harris down the left sideline for a 60-yard touchdown to tie the game.
After the Bears scored to go back up by seven, the Racers drove down the field, but were stopped on a fourth-down play. The defense forced a turnover on the next play and Brockman hit Barnett on an 18-yard touchdown two plays later. Brockman put the game away two drives later as he found Marcus Harris for the 5th time on a 28-yard touchdown for the final points of the game.
Marcus Harris (St. Louis, Mo.) joined Brockman in the record books as he finished the game with nine catches for 213 yards and five touchdowns. He set MSU and OVC records for touchdown receptions, while becoming just the fourth Racer to eclipse the 200-yard mark.
Marcus Harris, who is already the school's all-time leader in career receptions, entered Saturday without a touchdown on the season. That quickly changed as he caught a 21-yard pass on the first drive of the second quarter, and then had a 71-yard catch and run on the next possession.
On the opening drive of the second half, Marcus Harris capped a 13-play drive by hauling in a two-yard TD reception on 4th-and-goal.
Lost in the mix was the running of Mike Harris (Broken Arrow, Okla.), who rushed 30 times for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He became the first Racer to go over 200 yards since 2006, and the first back to carry the ball 30 times since 2005.
Mike Harris pulled the Racers within seven points late in the first half on a two-yard TD run. In the fourth quarter, Mike Harris put the Racers ahead for good as he cut back and went 30 yards for a touchdown on the first play after a Missouri State fumble. His biggest run of the game came in the final minutes as the Racers faced a 3rd-and-7 deep in their own territory. Mike Harris broke to the outside and raced down the sideline for 57 yards to allow MSU to run out the clock.
The trio of Brockman, Harris and Harris combined to make the Racers the first team in the history of the FCS to have a 500-yard passer, 200-yard receiver and a 200-yard rusher.
