With three games remaining in Ohio Valley Conference regular season play, the Murray State women's soccer team travels to UT-Martin on Sunday for its lone contest of the week.
Sophie Hargreaves scored the seventh hat trick in MSU history last week as the Racers blanked Tennessee Tech 3-0. She scored a pair of first half goals and added a penalty kick in the second half to reclaim the team scoring lead with six goals on the season.
MSU has not lost in its last three OVC matches, holding its opponents scoreless in the last 300 minutes of conference play.
The Racers head into Sunday's match looking to move up the OVC standings, as six of the top seven teams are within two points of one another.
“Going into a local rival game, the girls have been training hard this week and we know we're going to have tough matchups as we finish with three games that are really important point-wise across the conference,” head coach Beth Acreman said.
UT-Martin has won its last three conference matches, outscoring Austin Peay, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech by a 6-0 margin. They have shutouts in six of seven wins this season.
MSU split in two matches with the Skyhawks in 2009, first dropping a 2-0 regular season match before picking up a 1-0 win in the semifinals of the OVC Championships. The Racers hold an 8-2-2 all-time series advantage.
“We're back to full-strength,” Acreman said. “Mentally, this is a good place for us to be and we're ready to peak at the end of the season having players healthy. It's going to be very competitive these last few games but the girls know the importance of the games and are motivated to get the results we need.”
