A pair of early first half goals proved too much to overcome as the Murray State soccer team dropped a 2-0 non-conference decision Wednesday night at Evansville.
The Purple Aces scored the first goal of the match just 4:05 into the first half, finding the back of the net from five yards out. They added their second goal four minutes later from just in front of the net.
MSU (2-10-3) out-shot Evansville 16-7 on the night, including a 13-2 margin on shots taken in the second half. Both teams were able to put four shots on net.
Danielle McMurray recorded a team-high four shots for the Racer offense as Kalli McCoy and Rachel Longley followed with three shots each.
"Two very early goals today killed our momentum," head coach Beth Acreman said. "We came out and redeemed ourselves in the second half but still couldn't find the back of the net. Great performances from Maja Nordal and Kalli McCoy which I was pleased with. We're going to get home and start preparing for Tennessee Tech this weekend and will keep demanding better performances from each player for this last part of the season."
Olivia Hemme and Tara Isbell split goaltending duties for MSU with Hemme drawing the start. Each keeper recorded one save on the evening.
Murray State returns home to Cutchin Field on Oct. 8, hosting Tennessee Tech in an Ohio Valley Conference contest. Match time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
