Soccer Faces Quick Turnaround with Pair of Mid-week Matches

Coming off of a win and tie in its previous two matches, the Murray State women's soccer team heads to Evansville on Oct. 6 for its final non-conference contest of the season before returning home for its lone Ohio Valley Conference tilt of the week Oct. 8 against Tennessee Tech.
The Racers needed overtime to find the back of the net as Danielle McMurray scored her first goal of the season off a pair of passes on a free kick in the MSU attacking zone against Jacksonville State for a 1-0 win. Two days later, Racer goalkeeper Tara Isbell stopped all eight shots she faced to record her second consecutive shutout in Murray State's 0-0 tie against Austin Peay. Isbell was named OVC Goalkeeper of the Week after posting two shutouts on 10 saves.
With just a few days between matches, MSU head coach Beth Acreman is looking forward to having a chance to work on some things against a non-conference opponent before returning to OVC play.
“It's nice during conference play to break up the schedule with a non-conference match,” Acreman said. “Our possession hasn't been as good as it needs to be and needs to improve going into the Tennessee Tech match, and tomorrow gives us a chance to work on that. This season, where we're at right now, every game is going to be extremely important. We don't have any leeway to mess around in games and Tennessee Tech is going to be our number one focus this week.”
Evansville, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, enters Wednesday's game at 2-7-1 overall and having lost its two previous matches, both road contests against Miami and Drake. The Purple Aces are led on offense by Breanna Beine with three goals through 10 matches. The Racers are just 1-5-0 against Evansville all-time, but pulled off a 1-0 victory in the schools' previous meeting last season.
Tennessee Tech has struggled as of late, losing five consecutive matches while failing to score in its last three. The Golden Eagles are 2-9 overall and are winless in OVC play at 0-2 after matches against Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky. The Racers trail TTU 5-6-1 all-time overall but have picked up wins in the previous five matches, including a 4-0 victory in last season's OVC Tournament Championship game.
