The Murray State women's cross country team has been awarded the 2010-11 Ohio Valley Conference Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are bestowed upon the Conference squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. Included in the areas for evaluation are the conduct of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administrators and fans.
"I am really excited that our women earned the team sportsmanship award and represented Murray State so well," said head coach Jenny Severns. "It shows that they are not only talented athletes but also good people."
The Racers finished third at the OVC Championships, the third straight season of placing in the top three. Senior Katelyn Jones placed 10th individually and was named All-OVC Second Team.
MSU closes out the 2010 season this Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Louisville, Ky.
