Duo helps Racers to 673 yards and 61 points
After helping Murray Stare rack up 673 yards in a 61-35 victory over Austin Peay, quarterback Casey Brockman and running back Duane Brady earned weekly honors from the Ohio Valley Conference. Brockman was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Brady garnered Co-Newcomer of the Week honors.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) earned his second player of the week honor this season after going 38-for-57 for 497 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown. He led the Racers on nine scoring drives as MSU eclipsed the 50-point mark for the third time this season.
Brockman gave the Racers a two touchdown lead in the second quarter as he threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Barnett and ran one in from 18-yards out in the first five minutes of the quarter. He put the game away in the third quarter as he threw a 43-yard touchdown to Rashad Daniels and a 56-yard strike to Marcus Harris on the next series.
The 497 passing yards are the third most in school history, behind only his 570-yard effort against Missouri State earlier this season and Justin Fuente's 553-yard effort against Southern Illinois in 1999.
Brady (St. Augustine, Fla.) earned his first conference honor as he turned in the first 100-yard performance of his collegiate career. He rushed 22 times for 114 yards and two scores. Brady continued to get stronger as the game went on and he did his best work in the fourth quarter as the Racers put the game away.
On the final Racer drive of the game, Brady carried seven times on the eight-play drive. He started the drive with an eight-yard gain and followed it up with a 24-yard scamper. He gained nine, 12, zero and two yards on the next four carries, before Brockman tried a play-action pass. On fourth-and-goal at the one, Brady lowered his head and crossed the goaline for the touchdown.
