Senior enters third season as starting quarterback
Murray State head football coach Chris Hatcher announced Monday afternoon that senior Jeff Ehrhardt has been named the starting quarterback. Ehrhardt was locked in a battle throughout camp with sophomore Casey Brockman and freshman Marshyl Rothman.
“We decided on one today and we are going to make Jeff Ehrhardt our starting quarterback,” said Hatcher following Monday afternoon's practice. “Casey Brockman will be our second guy and we will use Marshyl Rothman in situational downs and you will probably see him out at receiver a little bit, as well.”
“We felt that Jeff had the most consistent camp overall, and thought Casey had a good camp. We felt we were really fortunate to have two good quarterbacks, but we felt like that if we went ahead and made the announcement today we would give Jeff a little more opportunity to get ready for the first game.”
Ehrhardt (St. Louis, Mo.) enters his third season as the starter and is 450-for-743 for 4,953 yards and 35 touchdowns in his career. He was named the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after throwing for 2.567 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has been slowed by injuries over the past two seasons.
“I am definitely very excited and I think it is a huge honor,” said Ehrhardt. “It was a great battle between all three of us this summer and I am thankful for the opportunity.”
The Racers will hold their final practice before classes begin tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.
