Short-Handed Racers Drop Home Match Against Western Michigan
9/19/2010 2:53:06 PM | Women's Soccer
The Murray State women's soccer team was unable to recover from playing a player down in a 6-1 non-conference defeat Sunday afternoon against Western Michigan at Cutchin Field.
The Racers were forced to play with 10 players after Katie Wilson was given a red card 40 seconds before halftime after a collision with the Western Michigan keeper. Already playing with a shortened bench due to injuries, MSU was unable to match the Bronco attack in the second half.
Freshman Shauna Wicker scored her second goal of the season in the 36th minute, her second straight game with a goal. She placed a header off of a corner kick from Laken Dirkes in the upper corner of the right side of the goal.
MSU opens Ohio Valley Conference action next weekend, traveling to Eastern Kentucky Sept. 24 and Morehead State Sept. 26.
