The Murray State women's soccer team opened 2010 Ohio Valley Conference action with a 1-0 defeat against Eastern Kentucky Friday afternoon in Richmond, Ky.
With the match tied in the 79th minute, Nicole Donnelly broke the stalemate with a goal from five yards out from the MSU net for the lone goal of the match for the host Colonels.
Senior Rachel Longley paced the Murray State (1-8-2) offense, taking four shots with one shot on goal. Senior Kalli McCoy was the only other Racer with multiple shot attempts, placing both of her shots on net.
Senior Tara Isbell stopped nine shots on the day for the Racers in goal, including the first three of the match in the opening seven minutes.
The Racers had a chance to respond a minute after the EKU (4-4-2) strike, but Longley and Jillian Russel each had back-to-back shots blocked, and MSU was unable to string together another offensive chance before the end of the match.
Murray State concludes its opening weekend of conference play with a Sunday afternoon match at noon against Morehead State.
