Johnson and Harris Earn Weekly OVC Honors

Duo combine for three touchdowns in victory over UT Martin
After their first victory of the season with a convincing 52-16 victory over UT Martin, a pair of Murray State players were honored by the league office Sunday as Dontrell Johnson was named the OVC Specialist of the Week, while Mike Harris earned Newcomer of the Week accolades.
Johnson (Moultrie, Ga.) earned his first career honor after averaging 49.3 yards on three punt returns. He began his evening by taking the first punt of the game at his own nine-yard line, made a couple guys miss, and got a knockout block from Jordan Sklba as he raced down the right sideline for a 91-yard touchdown.
Johnson help set up the Racers third touchdown of the first quarter as his second punt return covered 35 yards and set up the MSU offense in Skyhawk territory. He nearly broke to open on his third punt return as he went 22 yards to the UTM 38-yard line in setting up a field goal.
Harris (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had his best all-around game as he accumulated 164 total yards and two touchdowns in the first start of his career. He carried the ball 17 times for 119 yards and a touchdown, and added five receptions for 45 yards and a score. He became the first Racer back to go over 100 yards since the 2009 season opener against Kentucky Wesleyan and the first Racer to go over the century mark against an FCS team since Charlie Jordan went for 117 yards against Jacksonville State in 2008.
Harris got his first touch of the game late in the first quarter and scampered 20 yards. On the next drive, Harris rushed twice for 24 yards and followed up an eight-yard reception by taking a short pass and weaving his way through the Skyhawk defense for a 25-yard touchdown.
After the Racers recovered a fumble on a punt, Harris put together his own three-play drive as he went 27 yards on the first play and followed it with a three-yard gain to the one-yard line. On the next play, Harris went over right tackle for the first rushing touchdown of his career.
The Racers return to action next Saturday as they travel to face #4 Jacksonville State in a key OVC showdown. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
