Murray State Holds On 67-61 At SIUE

The Murray State Racers scored a 67-61 win at SIU Edwardsville at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Ill.
Trailing 15-10, the Racers put together a 15-4 run to grab their largest lead of the half at 25-19 with 4:05 showing on the clock when Chris Griffin and Isaiah Canaan each hit a three-pointer.
MSU had a 30-26 lead when B.J. Jenkins hit a three-pointer with :40 remaining, but SIUE's Cornelius Chatt answered at the buzzer with a three to cut the Racers' lead to one.
SIUE came back to claim a 45-41 lead with 12:48 left, when the Racers had a 10-0 run on a couple of baskets from Isacc Miles and one from Jewuan Long and Jeffery McCLain for a 55-50 MSU lead with 7:18 remaining.
The game was again tied at 58-58 with 3:53 left, when Daniel scored for a two-point lead with 3:36 left.
The Racers held the Cougars in five straight possessions and took a 62-58 lead with 1:00 remaining on a rebound and score by McClain.
Jenkins paced the Racers with 14 points, with 10 each from Miles and Canaan.
Ed Daniel tied the season-high for MSU with a career-high 14 rebounds.
NOTES
The Racers get back to Ohio Valley Conference play when they return home Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tip at the CFSB Center against UT Martin. MSU won their earlier game against the Skyhawks (Dec. 21) when they erased a nine-point deficit at the beginning of the second half and earned a 66-54 win at the Elam Center.
The Racers will be interested observers when Thursday night's games come around in the OVC. Austin Peay (7-2) who shares first place with Tennessee State hits the road for the Death Valley swing with a game at Eastern Kentucky, while the Tigers visit Morehead State.
