Shauna Wicker doubled her number of goals for the year, and the Murray State soccer team had its best offensive effort of the season as the Racers traveled to Huntsville, Ala., and collected a 6-0 non-conference victory Monday afternoon against Alabama A&M.

Julie Mooney gave the Racers the lead at the 25:12 mark, scoring her fourth goal of the season to put MSU up 1-0. She added a second consecutive goal with less than five minutes remaining in the first half on a pass from Sophie Hargreaves.

The Racers beat the halftime buzzer for their third goal as Teryn Wright scored her first of the season, beating A&M goalkeeper Linda Aboagye with two seconds remaining in the period. Mooney picked up her fifth point in the game with an assist.

Wicker took over in the second 45 minutes, scoring her first of the day in the 58^th minute with the helper going to Hargreaves on a free kick. Her second goal came almost 12 minutes later at 68:55, with Amber Hanson collecting the assist. Her third and final goal for MSU came at 80:49 as Hargreaves picked up her team-leading third assist of the game.

“We played well as a team today,” head coach Beth Acreman said. “Our possession was more consistent which created some good scoring opportunities. I was impressed with the finishing of Julie Mooney and Shauna Wicker. They gave us the boost we needed. We will be practicing hard this week to prepare for our next two conference games.”

The hat trick by Wicker is the seventh time an individual has scored at least three goals for Murray State, the last coming against Tennessee Tech in 2010 by Hargreaves. Hargreaves matched her own mark for total assists in a game with three, now holding two of the three times a member of the Racers has done so in one game.

Murray State (3-7-2) out-shot the hometown Bulldogs 21-4 on the day, including a 13-1 advantage in the second half. Wicker, Mooney and Bronagh Kerins each had four shot attempts, with all of Wicker's and Mooney's coming on goal.

Goalkeepers Lauren Kelly and Yi Du combined to make three saves in the game, helping the Racers to their third shutout of the season.

Murray State stays on the road this weekend, jumping back into Ohio Valley Conference action. The Racers travel to Tennessee Tech Oct. 14 and head to Jacksonville State Oct. 16.
