The Murray State athletic department wants fans and members of the Murray/Calloway County community to help support Murray Calloway County Hospital and Western Baptist Hospital to help raise breast cancer awareness for the local area through two events.
“We appreciate the support we receive from the local health industries, especially our partnership with MCCH,” said Associate AD for External Affairs Paul Bubb. “And we want to assist them in reaching out to our Racer fans. There is a significant increase in both drawing awareness to breast cancer as well as research and services for those stricken with this disease.”
The first event will take place Friday, Oct. 21 (National Mammogram Day) at 11 a.m. in the Murray Room of the CFSB Center. MCCH will be hosting a lunch, which will include door prizes, giveaways and an inspirational time with Mary Beth Hall, author of Lessons from a Bald Chick. Hall will talk about her experience with cancer and how learning to laugh at yourself through the difficult time can be one of the best lessons learned. For more information and to reserve your spot for the lunch, call 762-1831 or 762-1832 by Oct. 19.
The second opportunity to support local organizations with breast cancer awareness is through Western Baptist's PINK GLOVE DANCE. Recently 225 Western Baptist employees donned pink gloves and danced in the national PINK GLOVE DANCE competition. The video of the dance is available at the following link: http://pinkglove.co/5. You can help by watching the video and then clicking “like” to vote for the group. Western Baptist is competing against over 135 other videos, with the winning group earning $10,000 for breast cancer awareness.
So watch and like the video and forward the link to your friends and family. It will help spread the word: “Early detection saves lives. Get a mammogram!”
“I hope our fans will embrace one, if not both, of these opportunities and become a player, not just a spectator, in the fight against breast cancer,” added Bubb.
