Winfrey Out for the Season Due to Injury

Murray State Head Women's Basketball Coach Rob Cross has announced that sophomore forward Jessica Winfrey will be sidelined for the 2011-12 season due to injury.
"Jessica has had a great off-season after playing all of last season with a torn meniscus. This injury was very disappointing not only for Jessica, but for the entire Racers program because she had worked so hard to become a better player and leader for her team," Cross said. "She was practicing extremely well and I believe she was poised to become one of the two-or-three best players in a very talented Ohio Valley Conference. We have confidence that she will return to the court better than ever for next season. Her work ethic and attitude are fantastic, so there is no doubt that she will come back to be a dominant force for the Racers next season."
The 5-10 forward started in all 30 games for the Racers in 2010-11, averaging 10.6 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. The Marion, Ark., native also tallied a team-best 10 double-doubles. During Ohio Valley Conference action her out-put increased to 12.0 points and 9.9 rebounds per outing, while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and adding 19 assists and 12 steals. Her efforts led to her being named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team.
MSU will open the season, Friday, Nov. 11 at the CFSB Center against Evansville at 5:15 p.m. The public's first chance to see the 2011-12 team will be Thursday, Oct. 27 at Fan Jam in the CFSB Center starting at 7 p.m.
