Robinson and Winfrey Named to OVC Preseason Team

Murray State women's basketball junior Mariah Robinson has been named to the 2011-12 All-Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Team, as announced at the annual Basketball Media Day in Nashville, Tenn. The Racers were picked to finish the regular season in sixth of 11 teams.

Robinson earned her spot on the preseason team, as one of two players from MSU. Sophomore Jessica Winfrey, who will miss the 2011-12 season due to injury, also earned a spot on the team. Robinson, a native of Beaver Dam, Ky., was an All-OVC Second Team pick in 2010-11 after averaging 15.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 2010-11.
In the preseason poll, as voted on by the leagues head coaches and sports information directors, the Racers earned 88 points and were picked sixth. Tennessee Tech claimed the top spot (193 points/13 first-place votes), with UT Martin coming in second (187/nine first-place votes). Eastern Illinois picked up 159 points for a predicted third place finished followed by Austin Peay with 142 points to finish fourth. Rounding out the poll are Morehead State (133 points), Murray State (88 points), Tennessee State (82 points), SIUE (73 points), Jacksonville State (72 points) and Eastern Kentucky (47 points) and Southeast Missouri (34 points).
SIUE will be playing a full Conference schedule this year for the first time since joining the league in 2008. The Cougars will be eligible for the regular-season title this year and will be able to participate in postseason play in 2013.
The Racers opening play, Friday, Nov. 11 against Evansville at 5:15 p.m. in the CFSB Center.
