Racers Wrap Up OVC Championship Trip With 1-0 Win at EKU

Murray State soccer locked up its spot in the 2011 OVC Championships Sunday afternoon, traveling to Eastern Kentucky and defeating the Colonels 1-0 at the EKU Soccer Field in Richmond, Ky.
The win moved the Racers (7-8-3, 4-3-2 OVC) up a spot in the OVC standings up to fourth as they end the season with 14 points in league play.
Senior Sophie Hargreaves notched the game-winner late in the contest, scoring off of a free kick from fellow senior Maja Nordahl at 73:06 in the second half. Hargreaves placed her fourth goal of the season into the lower left corner of the net.
“The team pulled together well today,” head coach Beth Acreman said. “I was impressed with their hard work. We have to keep pushing ourselves leading into the OVC Tournament.
The Racers came out strong in the final regular season game of the season, firing off five shots in the first 15 minutes. EKU held an overall shot advantage in the match, taking 17 to the Racers 12.
Goalkeeper Yi Du continued her strong play in the second half of the season Sunday, recording her sixth shutout of the season and her fifth win of the year. She stopped all seven shot attempts she faced on the day, second most for her this season.
Murray State opens play at the 2011 OVC Championships at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau, Mo., against Morehead State. The winner will play top-seeded host Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. Friday night.
