Murray State running back Mike Harris and linebacker Qua Huzzie earned national recognition from the College Football Performance Awards as Harris was named the National Running Back of the Week, while Huzzie was selected to the honor roll. Also, Huzzie was selected as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network/Fathead.com.
Harris (Tulsa, Okla.) had his best game of the season as he rushed for 206 yards on 21 carries. He averaged 9.8 yards a carry and broke off runs of 49, 32, 22 and 22 yards. He became the first Racer to rush for over 200 yards against Eastern Kentucky in the 71 meetings between the two schools. Harris added six receptions for 66 yards.
Harris also became just the second running back in MSU history to have three 200-yard games in his career. Derrick Cullors recorded three 200-yard games during the 1995 season.
This season, Harris has rushed for 698 yards and eight touchdowns. He has five 100-yard rushing games this season, and nine in his career. He is currently tied with Cullors for fifth place for career 100-yard games. He is averaging 99.7 yards per game and 5.5 yards per carry.
Huzzie (LaGrange, Ga.) earned his third and fourth honor after being named the OVC Newcomer and Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday. He finished the game against EKU with 13 tackles (8 solo), four tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass break-up.
He put an end to the Colonels second drive by forcing a fumble near midfield, while forcing a fumble in the endzone that was recovered for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Huzzie ranks third on the team with 58 tackles, while leading the OVC and ranking 26th nationally with 10.5 tackles-for-loss. He also has three sacks, two forced fumbles, three pass break-ups and a quarterback hurry.
