Racers Host Annual Basketball Media Day at the CFSB Center

Murray State Women's Basketball Head Coach Rob Cross was at the CFSB Center this afternoon for the Racers annual Basketball Media Day. Cross, men's basketball head coach Steve Prohm and select players from both teams spoke to the media from the local area about the upcoming 2011-12 seasons.
Junior Mariah Robinson and sophomore Jessica Winfrey were both recently named to the 2011-12 Preseason All-OVC team after both earned All-OVC honors the previous season. However, Winfrey will miss the entire 2011-12 campaign due to injury.
Robinson is the top returning scorer for MSU, having averaged 15.9 points per game in 2010-11. She also added 5.9 rebounds per game, shot .376 from the field, .338 from behind the arc and .828 from the charity stripe and added 74 assists and 46 steals.
Other key returning starters for the Racers are seniors Kayla Lowe and Mallory Schwab. Lowe netted 9.6 points and 4.9 boards per game, while Schwab added 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per outing.
MSU will open the season, Friday, Nov. 11 at 5:15 p.m. in front of a friendly crowd at the CFSB Center when the host Evansville. Last season the Racers ranked No. 27 among NCAA DI women's teams for home attendance. MSU was the only team from the OVC in the top-50 and averaged 3,758 fans in each of their 14 home games.
MSU has a strong scheduled for 2011-12 that includes regional rivalry games against Evansville (Nov. 11 & Dec. 10), Saint Louis (Nov. 26 & Dec. 3) and Southern Illinois (Jan. 26). The Racers will also travel to play Indiana (Nov. 14) and Louisville (Nov. 29), who was ranked ninth in the preseason AP Top-25 Poll.
