The Murray State offense pushed across nine runs in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as UNC Asheville collected 20 hits in the Bulldogs 15-11 victory over the Breds in the 2011 season opener at Greenwood Field.<br />

The Bulldogs (1-0) got on the board in the first inning as a pair of base hits helped to load the bases before a pair of runs scored on a pair of base on balls.<br />
<br />
UNCA added to its lead in the third as a pair of hits put two runners on with two outs. Ian Graham drove in both runners with a double to left center.<br />
<br />
The Breds (0-1) got on the board in the fourth as
Brandon Elliott started the inning with a ground-rule double just inside the bag at third. After a groundout moved the runner to third,
Jacob Rhodes followed with an RBI single to center field.
Colton Moore followed with a single through the right side and
Brandon Eggenschwiler walked to load the bases.
Wes Warren drove in a run with a single to right field and
Paul Ritzheimer plated a run with a chopper into the hole at short.
Elliot Frey drove in another run with a single to right field, ahead of
Zach Noonan’s sacrifice fly to deep center field. Elliot collected his second hit of the inning, a run-scoring single up the middle.
Travis Isaak drove in two more runs with a single through the right side and took second base when nobody covered the bag. Isaak came around to score when Rhodes’ liner to right was misplayed.<br />

The Bulldogs got a pair of runs back in the home-half of the inning as a walk, single and wild pitch put runners on second and third with one out. Danny Baatz blooped a single into right field to score one run, while the second run scored when the throw home was up the third-base line.<br />

UNCA regained the lead in the fifth as they used six hits to push across five runs. Graham drove in his third run of the game with a single to left center, ahead of Robert McIntosh’s two-run double down the left-field line. Danny Baatz drove in a run with a base hit and Grant Gajdosz plated the final run with a double to left center.<br />

MSU got one run back in the sixth as Noonan delivered a solo home run off the scoreboard in left center.<br />

The Bulldogs added another run in the sixth as Lurie delivered a sacrifice fly to center field.<br />
<br />
The Breds scratched across a run in the ninth as Noonan reached on a bunt single and went to third on Elliott’s groundout off the leg of the pitcher. Isaak drove in the runner with a groundout to second.<br />
<br />
Grier Harrington (1-0) earned the victory in relief as he allowed two runs on two hits and five strikeouts over five innings.
Bryan Babin (0-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits over 1.2 innings.<br />

Elliott led the offense by going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Noonan added two hits and two RBIs, while Isaak drove in three runs. McIntosh and Buch each had four hits for the Bulldogs and Graham added four RBIs.<br />
<br />
The two teams play the middle game of the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at noon.
