“It was a great first day, I was real pleased with our spirit,” MSU Head Coach Chris Hatcher said. “I thought for the most part the guys knew what to do and knew what is expected of them and they should, most of them have been here for a season with us already.”
The Racers will be an experienced squad in 2011 with nine starters returning on offense and eight starters on defense.
“I thought we had a good one today,” Hatcher added. “The big thing we're trying to do on offense is get some continuity with our new receivers and get them in sync with Casey Brockman our quarterback. And on defense, we've got to become a better tackling team. There is only so much you can do in helmets, but this was a good first day.”
Today was the first of 15 practices which leads to the Blue-Gold Bowl on April 14.
The Racers will practice on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the four weeks. Practices during the week will begin at 3:20 p.m., while the Saturday practices will begin at 9 a.m. Fans are invited to come out and watch.
The Murray State Football team opened spring workouts Tuesday on a breezy and warm afternoon at Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.
The Racers begin the second year in the Chris Hatcher era eager to build upon their success from 2010 when MSU finished 6-5 and recorded their first winning season since 2004.
